banal

If anyone is aware of a more pointless and mundane statement than "have a safe flight", I would like to know what it is?

I think it's time we all Step Up and comment on this one.

Slightly unrelated, but equally offensive are baseball analogies, uttered by fuckwits in boardrooms in non-baseballing countries who step up to the plate when others shy away, tell detractors to take a walk, and when the chips are really down (at the bottom of the ninth) hit a home run for the team, and emerge as unlikely heroes, against all the odds.
Back to the subject at hand:
"My mother has the same ironing board cover as you"
can translate to:
"I have absolutely nothing of substance to say, so I am just filling the space which would othewise be occupied by a more agreeable silence".

Meg Ryan's

"I have no response to that."

I like to sign office farewell cards with:

"Watch out for trucks."

I've always found "Watch your back" to be a well received farewell.

I recently caught up with an old school chum (by phone thank god). We exchanged mobile numbers. I said "Have you got that?" He replied "We're locked and loaded."

!!!

I deleted his number.

I've found that a farewell "God bless" never hurts in gaining admiration, if you can keep a straight face; in written correspondence, couple your "God bless" with a small image of a paw print indicating that your cat gives a shit it's someone's birthday.
By the way, domestic cats; what exactly is the point?
